"Carcassonne, a City in History" is a book in french written by three authors : Jean Blanc, Claude-Marie Robion and Philippe Satgé. They proposed here a new reading of this World Heritage of UNESCO.

The writers have gone in search of the men and women who, over the centuries have lived, thought and built this monument. They searched under each rocks, behind the paintings and sculptures, through the windows and manuscripts, to try to capture the souls of those who lived there.

Carcassonne has evolved through centuries from a protohistoric oppidum to a medieval fortified city, but the fortress was also abandoned before being one of the most visited tourist site in France and one of the most famous worldwide too.

The authors Jean Blanc and Jean-Marie Robion work in different sections of the Departmental Archives of Aude. Mr Blanc is in charge of conservation and Mr Robion is responsible of documents studies. Philippe Satgé is a teacher in history and geography. All three are engaged for several years in researching the religious, social and cultural life of the city of Carcassonne.
